Michael Trucano

Michael Trucano is a visiting fellow in the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution, on leave from the World Bank, where for 26 years he has provided policy advice, research, and technical assistance to governments seeking to utilise new technologies in their education systems. His current research focuses on generative artificial intelligence in education and, more broadly, emerging edtech policies, initiatives, and institutions after the pandemic, including the use of digital credentials. He has also helped found a number of non-governmental and research initiatives related to the uses of new technologies in education around the world, including the EdTech Hub and the mEducation Alliance. He serves on the board of Digital Promise, and chairs the GPE’s global reference group on new technologies in education. He is particularly well known for his work related to the development of national edtech policies and the building of related government and quasi-governmental agencies.
