Damian Hinds was appointed to his role at the Department for Education in 2023.His responsibilities include school accountability and inspection, standards and testing and primary assessment, supporting a high-quality teaching profession including professional development, supporting recruitment and retention of teachers and school leaders including initial teacher training and school revenue funding. His other areas of focus include pupil premium, digital strategy and technology in education, curriculum, behaviour, attendance and the National Tutoring Programme. He was previously Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice between 2022 and 2023. His previous roles have been Minister for Security and Borders at the Home Office , Secretary of State for Education, Minister of State for Employment at the Department of Work and Pensions, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, Assistant Government Whip, Member of the Education Select Committee and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Mobility. Before politics, he spent 18 years working in the pubs, brewing and hotel industries, in Britain and abroad.
