The Rt Hon Gillian Keegan was appointed to her role in 2022, with responsibility for early years and childcare, children’s social care, teacher quality, recruitment and retention, the school curriculum, school improvement, further education, apprenticeships and skills and higher education. She was previously Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Africa) at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Prior to this, she served as Minister of State (Minister for Care and Mental Health) at the Department of Health and Social Care and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills) at the Department for Education. She was elected as Conservative MP for Chichester in 2017.
